CBS News has appointed Ingrid Ciprian-Matthews as its new president, marking a historic first for the esteemed news organization.

Ciprian-Matthews becomes the first Black woman to lead CBS News, shattering glass ceilings and paving the way for greater diversity and representation in the media industry.

Ciprian-Matthews, an Emmy Award-winning journalist, has been a trailblazer throughout her illustrious 30-year career at CBS News.

Her appointment as president is a testament to her exceptional journalistic skills, unwavering commitment to excellence, and profound understanding of the news landscape.

“Ciprian-Matthews’ editorial expertise, her depth of knowledge, and her impeccable news judgment make her an incredible leader,” said Wendy McMahon, the newly appointed president and CEO of CBS News and Stations and CBS Media Ventures.

Prior to her historic appointment, Ciprian-Matthews served as the executive vice president for newsgathering at CBS News. In this role, she oversaw the network’s global newsgathering operations, including all domestic and international bureaus.

Herextensive experience and leadershiphave been instrumental in shaping CBS News’ coverage of major events, from presidential elections to natural disasters and international conflicts.

Ciprian-Matthews’ achievements have been widely recognized within the industry.

In addition to her Emmy Award, she has received an Alfred I. duPont Award for CBS News’ coverage of the Newtown tragedy and an Edward R. Murrow Award for Overall Excellence in 2018.

Most recently, the Imagen Foundation, an advocacy organization for Latinos in media,named her one ofthe 2023 Most Influential Latinos in Media.
