Millions of babies who are not breastfed depend on formula as their source of nutrients. Most baby formulas contain protein from cow's milk that was altered for easier digestion and enhanced with extra nutrients needed for growth and development. The FDA sets specific nutritional requirements on the formula, and formula makers achieve those levels by adding various sugars, oils, and minerals. The formula mimics breast milk, although study shows breast milk is healthier.
