There’s a pond tucked into the Jefferson National Forest just outside Blacksburg, Virginia called Pandapas Pond. If you’re from Southwest Virginia, you probably know about it. I went there as a little kid on daycare field trips, the kind where everyone’s just running around in the woods being feral and alive. I went there with my family on weekends, hiking the trails that loop through the trees. I went fishing at the water’s edge, without really caring if I caught anything. I went there the way kids go places they don’t fully understand yet, not knowing what I was learning,
